8:30 am – 9:45 am: Speakers Rodney Hopkins of ITAC, Mark Roberts of The Steward School, and Ted Kienast of Smith Turf and Irrigation
Field Renovation: The Steward School. Grading, Drainage, Irrigation, Sprigging and Post Sprigging Weed Control
An in-depth look at the work done this summer to The Steward School’s athletic complex to address some grading and drainage issues and bring the complex a new irrigation system and one of the latest vegetative bermudagrass varieties (Tahoma 31) after managing VaMont and Patriot for years.
9:45 am – 10:45 am: Speakers Mark Roberts of The Steward School, Josh Marden of Turface Athletics, and Kyle White of Luckstone
Mound Renovation
A look at the clay selection, project layout and execution of properly renovating a pitcher’s mound. Discussion of infield mix and infield conditioner choices and selection.
10:45 am – 11:45 pm: Speakers Daewon Koo of Virginia Tech and Dr. Dave McCall of Virginia Tech
Power-Hour VT Turf team
Daewon Koo, PhD Candidate with VT Turfgrass Weed Science will provide updates on herbicide regulatory concerns and herbicide-resistance issues. Dr. David McCall, VT Associate Professor and Turfgrass Pathologist, will discuss management of spring dead spot and winterkill issues for bermudagrass athletic fields.
