10:25 – 11:10 a.m. Mr. Alpha Jones “MorThanGrass: Manage the Field, Lead the People”
Most of us entered sports field management because we enjoyed the grass, the fields, the equipment, the competition, or simply being outdoors. But a career in this profession teaches us much more than how to maintain a field.
Drawing from decades of experience in sports field management, leadership, and professional service, this session shares eight lessons shaped by success, failure, adversity, opportunity, and the people encountered along the way.
Some lessons are about leading—building relationships, communicating effectively, developing people, and becoming the kind of leader others want to follow. Others are about navigating the profession—handling adversity, learning from mistakes, recognizing opportunities, adapting to change, and finding your own path. Through personal stories, practical examples, and honest reflection, attendees will take away lessons they can apply to their careers, their teams, and the people they are preparing to lead. Because sports field management may be where we work, but what we learn along the way shapes who we become and the impact we leave behind.
